Born in the southwest of Bahia, Marcos Neves, a Brazilian songwriter and composer, began his career in 1990. He first performed alongside singer Neto Costa. Together, they presented a repertoire that blended the joyful energy of Axé-Bahia with the intimacy of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) in the clubs of Salvador.
In 1999, he caught the attention of Brazilian singer-songwriter Roberto Chaves. Together, they created the song Bahia meu amor, which was released in France the same year by BMG France. One year later, Marcos arrived in Paris with his guitar and his own compositions, eager to broaden his musical horizons.
To establish himself in Paris, Marcos began by revisiting the great classics of Brazilian popular music, paying tribute to legendary composers such as Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Chico Buarque.
This period was followed by a series of artistic encounters that continually reshaped his creative world. He met Brazilian percussionist Letho Nascimento, who introduced him to “jungle-ethnic” rhythms. In 2002, he crossed paths with jazz musician Pierre-Yves Lamy, a composer, arranger, blues enthusiast, and guitar virtuoso. He also collaborated with Chilean percussionist Pepe Santiago, who initiated him into world music. For Marcos, these encounters became opportunities to expand and redefine his artistic universe.
