Biography

Born in 1955 in Guinea-Bissau, Ramiro Naka Gomes Dias aka Ramiro Naka is a songwriter, guitarist, percussionist and singer leading a career as a musician, comedian, storyteller and painter... It offers "gumbe-blues kréol" sung in manjak (Portuguese manjaque) and Creole: a music between gumbe, mandingo style, blues, kizomba, samba or bossa.

As a worthy heir of his native Guinea Bissau, Ramiro NAKA makes his music a mix of the most varied musical genres: percussion, fado, samba and salsa. All this gathered around the same style: the Gumbé, a rhythmic played originally with big drums but also a dance, with contagious energy?

Ramiro NAKA speaks of the Guineans of Guinea Bissau as the «Latins of Africa», since in Guinea Bissau, we have been speaking Portuguese for more than five hundred years. In this image, Guinean music is a wise mix of African traditions, Portuguese colonial heritage, Brazilian fraternity and Caribbean cousins.

And between afro or lusophone music, Ramiro couldn’t choose? Thus, he offers music borrowing from Fado, Rumba and Salsa while retaining the strength of the African tradition. Ramiro NAKA, who no longer lives in Guinea, has been able to share his country’s culture with the European public. His attachment to Gumbé is visible through his albums, a true tribute to this style that is now inseparable from his career.

Author, composer, performer, actor, storyteller or naive painter, nothing stops Ramiro Naka!
