In Louisiana, the Cajuns, descendants of the French expelled from Acadia (Canada) by the English, have assimilated to the local Anglo-Saxons and Hispanics. They have also intermixed with the black and Amerindian populations.
The music of the Cajuns is at the heart of their culture and attracts crowds. Although it has undergone an Americanization, it has retained its authenticity thanks to the diatonic accordion and the songs in French. The zydeco, an African-American version of the cajun, merges Acadian origins with Afro-American roots.
The Morand Cajun Band, formed in 1994, brings together four musicians around music that is out of the box. Their repertoire is a mix of Cajun rhythms, zydeco, rock and country music, which gains in power over the concerts.
The group invites you to a musical trip in Louisiana, with our cousins from across the Atlantic, the Cajuns and the Creoles. They revisit in a respectful but current way the traditional repertoire, immersing you in the atmosphere of the "dodo" rhythmic by the two-step, waltzes and mazurkas. The old Acadian dances (quadrilles and counterdances) alongside the more recent ones (cajun freeze and jitterbug) with blues and zydeco accents. A festive and friendly atmosphere is guaranteed!
